SALTY POPCORN TOP TEN COMEDIES OF ALL TIME

It’s been a month since we had a Salty list and we actually now have a list of 20 lists to write for the coming months. After our last cheery one which highlighted what the Kernels thought of the world of horror this time I thought we could show you all what we appreciated as a collective of the world of comedy. To be honest – I am not a huge comedy fan – I like serious a lot more and this may be explained by myself being about 10yrs older than the closest kernel. There are about three films in the list that I literally thought absolutely zip about but this is about the collective of the Kernels and shows a view that is different from the norm as it has a couple of generations in it – kind of like Margaret and that grumpy fossil from The Movie Show 🙂 But I am not the fossil here 🙂 Now this list, like all our others, is based on the Kernels providing me their own top 10 lists and I then tally up a winner’s board. I really have to give a special mention of two of mine that missed out – Harold and Maude and then Withnail and I – seriously some of the funniest things I have experienced in my life but the youngn’s have never seen them. People may be upset at no Monty Python and I may be stoned alive for this – but I just do not find them funny, maybe it was the age I was when I saw them, I did not understand them, and have never been able to get into them. So enjoy the Salty Popcorn Top Ten Comedies of all Time and thank the Kernel Gods there was no bloody Adam Sandler movies in here 🙂

NUMBER 10:

An oldie but a goldie – this film saw directors Jim Abrahams and David and Jerry Zucker pick straight acting actors to play satirical over the top comedic gold characters that made there delivery that much more effective. So effective it led to the crazy world of all things Leslie Neilson after this. The film still cracks me up – it was one of the first comedies I can remember from growing up.

“I am serious. And don’t call me Shirley” – hahaha

NUMBER 9:

This film does nothing for me but the Kernels have voted – I guess I wasn’t smoking enough weed around the time this film came out 🙂

NUMBER 8:

OK – I gotta love this one – it was a phenomenon and set Mike Meyers career on fire. I still sometimes give it a viewing – so ludicrously good 🙂

NUMBER 7:

The first of Jim Carrey’s films into the list – I just love this film. It is one of his cleanest films and has a very nice story to it and Carrey is at the top of his game here. And that little kid will soften even the meanest of hearts.

NUMBER 6:

The start of the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy that ended this month with THE WORLD’S END. For all the Kernels – easily the favourite out of the bunch.

NUMBER 5:

This has been my favourite comedy every since I saw it – it is still pure gold and if you have not seen it – drop your linen, stop your grinnin’ and get thee out of a nunnery and to your closest download place 🙂 Must see.

NUMBER 4:

I just do not understand people’s love for this film but I respect it. I loved Australia as a film and 98% of the population loathes it so each to their own. 🙂

OK – I did just crack up at the trailer, it may need another viewing.

NUMBER 3:

Is this film really, truly funny? Or is it the fact they play it so many times it has been imprinted into our minds as a film we must love. I think TV networks have a programming Groundhog Day when programming it. But every time I see it I crack up. I honestly would have had Wes Anderson films in this list as a successful comedy for Bill Murray but this one is damn funny.

“Don’t drive angry, don’t drive angry” – LOL

NUMBER 2:

I may have been the only Kernel who did not vote for this. I found it funny but not top 10 funny – but the youth of today says Nay Nay JK – it is a winner.

And just like Zoolander I cracked up during the trailer – time for another viewing of this one before the sequel comes out soon.

NUMBER 1:

I am stoked this film won it – I used to worship Jim Carrey. I felt I literally had ownership of him – I saw him first and me and some mates, when we finished work late at night, would head back to my nan’s and my place and watch him and the Wayan brothers in IN LIVING COLOUR. My poor nan sleeping away and putting up with four stoner bratz crying with laughter and snorting bong water at the hilarity of Carrey. I predicted the first time i saw him that “he should be in film, he will go a long way.” So really I am the Yoda of the film world 🙂 And for his first film to get the award just makes it all the more enjoyable. Carrey is also the only comedian to have two films in the list where he is the lead actor.
