SALTY POPCORN TOP TEN ANIMATIONS OF ALL TIME

The Salty Kernels assembled again to this time discuss and present our top ten animations of all time. Who doesn’t love a good animation? They are something we have enjoyed since childhood and something we still enjoy now as an adult, and with the introduction of Pixar onto the animation scene back in 1995, with Toy Story, things have gone to new levels, recently Dreamworks is matching Pixar on the animation front and now it is all about which one is next and is the story spectacular.

It should be known that animation dates back about 5000yrs when an earthenware bowl was created with five pics of a goat that make an animation. Since then it has grown steadily and about 5yrs ago the animation industry was worth about $68BILLION so you can see the stuff is popular – for kids, it is about colour and character and for adults, story, colour, character and also humor.

The kernels vote in the lists by submitting their own top 10 films and then I tally up the films and then this list emerges from amounts of votes for each film. They are all amazing films, and for me and I would say most of the kernels, they are all worth a decent 5 pops each. The one film that was completely unanimous was Number 1 – I was very impressed this one got in at number 1 as it has always been my favourite.

Enjoy our list from 10 to 1 and let us know your thoughts – what films would you have liked to have seen on the list? What films from the list did you love?

NUMBER 10:

I am so glad this film made the list, for me, honestly, one of the most underrated animations of all time. It is classic and it is beautifully told and heartfelt and this is the perfect combination for an animation.

NUMBER 9:

One of mine and many people’s favourite growing up – I think this was the one I made mum watch about a gazillion times on VHS, when VHS was invented hahaha

NUMBER 8:

There would have been tantrums if Studio Ghibli did not make this list – I prefer them in the original language but the castings for the dubbed versions of Ghibli films is spectacular and the people that originally introduced me to the Ghibli world swore that they had to be watched in English. I will take them either way these days but their originality is so different from US films and their imagination, story and spectacle is superb. Hayao Miyazaki is a genius with animation.

NUMBER 7:

Still one of my faves, I was so effected by this film and just fell in love with Toothless and Hiccup – brilliant in 3D and a true adventure filled with the lot – humour, danger, love, happiness, joy, sadness and excellence. I just upgraded to a new HUGE TV and surround system with a 3D Blu Ray player and bought this one straight up in 3D so I can view like a 4yr old – over and over and over 🙂

NUMBER 6:

Yay more Ghibli, favourited the world around as the best Ghibli film, it is amazing, I prefer Howl’s, but the team has voted 🙂 More must watch animation from a master of animation – Hayao Miyazaki. They did not all make the list but I must give special mention to all of Hayao Miyazaki’s films, watch them all, Princess Mononoke after these two to get you hooked and then work through them all – they will change your life.

NUMBER 5:

I do love this whole list but this one I cannot get enough of – I bought it on Blu Ray for my birthday present to self this year and when I got the new TV and surround system set up on Saturday this was the christening film. Better than ever on that big TV – NOW HURRY UP AND MAKE A SEQUEL PIXAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NUMBER 4:

Just beautiful – this is one of the most touching films on the list – how a grumpy assed rude cantankerous old man is the way he is – how could anyone not love Carl Fredrickson and Russell?

NUMBER 3:

One of the all time best animations of all time, the world over. It started one of the most superb franchises ever made that still makes grown men cry at that ending to number 3. But this one introduced us to Woody, Buzz and the whole crew and the endless humour of this odd couple of toys. I nearly bought all three of them today on Blu Ray but got Hugo instead as I want to see that 3D again 🙂
