The White House cops a beating, Channing Tatum becomes an action GOD and the 24 movie gets shelved

So Jack Bauer, you have been dawdling way too long on a 24 movie and now your perfect premise is being taken and made into two movies on pretty much a similar story – The White House – Jack Bauer you are missing out on your Die Hard styled film in the White House with CIA, FBI, President, the family – everything. This is bad news for you Mr Bauer but good news for us and good news for Channing Tatum, not so good for Gerard Butler 🙂

So there is two White House disaster films coming out this year and they both looked good. There is:

OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN – I have since reviewed this film so clickety click to go to the review!
PLOT: Disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped inside the White House in the wake of a terrorist attack; using his inside knowledge, Banning works with national security to rescue the President from his kidnappers.

Olympus Has Fallen starring Gerard Butler

Stars: Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman
It looks good and as soon as I saw this I was like “there goes the 24 movie”.
I was quite excited for this Die Hard/ 24 styled movie as we have been lacking in a good action film with a body count.
RELEASES: 4TH APRIL IN AUSTRALIA

But then – recently the trailer released for:
WHITE HOUSE DOWN
PLOT: While on a tour of the White House with his young daughter, a police officer (Channing Tatum) springs into action to protect his child and the president (Jamie Foxx) from a heavily armed group of paramilitary invaders.
Stars: Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx and Maggie Gyllenhaal
And my head exploded. This one is the return of Rolland Emmerich who I love. He did Independence Day, the Day After Tomorrow and (I loathe to mention it) 2012.
RELEASES: 5TH SEPTEMBER IN AUSTRALIA

I compare these two films and WHITE HOUSE DOWN has a huge budget and looks so much more slick – there is a hero shot in the trailer that reminds me of Keanu’s hero shot from Speed or The Matrix. Tatum has been getting better, has the lady crowd from the romance films and some action fans from GI Joe but mark my words people – this film will make him a household name.
