THE MUSKETEERS | BLU RAY GIVEAWAY

I bloody love this show, I was saddened with the end of the BBC UK show Merlin and needed something to fill my no thinking, fun, and eye candy slot. Along came THE MUSKETEERS, and to be honest, I was sold at hearing Luke Pasqualino was starring as D’Artagnan, I have crushed on this guy since he was in SKINS back in the second group of drug addled horny teenagers. But THE MUSKETEERS is much more, it is big budget, it is production sound, it is beautiful to look at and it ticks all the swashbuckling boxes. Now have I got a great giveaway for you – thanks to the fine folks at Roadshow Entertainment and BBC we have 3x copies of both season 1 and season 2 to give away on Blu Ray. So, in total, three prizes up for grabs, you will win both seasons on Blu Ray – that is about an $80 prize pack per winner – totes #winning 🙂

You know who they are and you know what the Musketeers are about; a group of mates, completely different in their lives who have a strict moral code and will always eventually do the right thing. They support, man, king and country, in that order and will die for that cause, although you know they never will die. Besides my eye candy of Pasqualino, there is also three different Musketeers that will appeal to different people; Tom Burke is the moodie Athos, his torturous whore of an ex, Milady (deWinter), is around (more in season two) but she is there to give him hell and screw everyone she shouldn’t. Burke has appeared in THE INVISIBLE WOMAN, ONLY GOD FORGIVES and DONKEY PUNCH. Santiago Cabrera is Aramis, and if you don’t pine for Pasqualino this is who you will pine for, he is gorgeous and was Lancelot in MERLIN and also a character in HEROES.

Howard Charles rounds out as Porthos, he is the least experienced actor but an enjoyable character, he will never be Oliver Platt as Porthos, but the TV show is a family show and Porthos is written more mysterious and with an undiscovered past than the hilarious rogue from Platt.

The show has some serious talent and the evil bad dude, Cardinal Richelieu, had to leave at the end of season one, why you ask? Well, he just had to regenerate into the Doctor. Peter Capaldi had to be written out of the show to board the blue box. He was an asshole in this, he did it well :).

It’s fun, it has some good drama, it is light but has some heart and besides the weekly stories it slowly evolves the prime storyline. It is less dark due to the television format but I don’t care, Pasqualino is just a guilty perv fest of mine #noshame :).

BBC has faith, after two series, 20x 55min episodes they just signed it for a third series, thank god – so much more they can explore with this show. Get in it to win it and because I can, here is another shot of Pasqualino :).

What is your favourite swashbuckling movie and why? I have not seen the truly old original ones but I am seeing a restored copy of 1929s THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK starring Douglas Fairbanks next week. For me I have to go with what I know and have grown up with – I have four of them I truly love – in order 1) Costner’s ROBIN HOOD 2) the first PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN  THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL 3) THE MASK OF ZORRO and 4) Disney’s THE THREE MUSKETEERS from 1993. All so much fun.
