THE FROZEN DEAD SYNOPSIS:
Based on the bestselling novel GLACÉ (The Frozen Dead) by Bernard Minier
A horrific discovery in a small town nestled high in the French Pyrenees begins to unravel a dark mystery that has been hidden for years. On an unforgiving winter morning, a group of workers discover the headless body of a horse, hanging suspended from the edge of a frozen cliff. Commandant Martin Servaz starts investigating and soon discovers a dark story of madness and revenge.
Winner for Best Series at Festival de la Fiction TV de La Rochelle 2016.
THOUGHTS ON THE FROZEN DEAD:
I loved it. It’s clever, it’s a little macabre and it will keep you on your toes. It has a sprinkling of BROADCHURCH, TRAPPED, HANNIBAL and all the other fantastic European thriller TV shows. The budget is good, the script is as good and the only thing I didn’t love was the very very end, although it could be because of a pending second season in the works which would make much more sense.
On a side note I am obsessed with anything snow. I would have LOVED to have been living in the wonderful town it is set in. The scenery and cinematography is sublime and I can hardly fathom the logistics of filming in that environment.
An easy four pops for me and can’t wait to see a second season.
Best of luck in winning a copy.

The Bridge is so original in its format and the gritty characters are so believable and interesting
The Fall because it’s so thrilling with an intriguing villain who matches wits with Gillian Anderson’s character. Fantastic series.
Happy Valley is a crime drama I’m really getting into Sarah Lancashire is a great actress she does make a fine police woman, I wouldn’t mess with her.
This sounds great but my favourite Euro crime drama is still The Killing. I loved Nanna, the unfortunate victim in the case, she was like Laura Palmer in Twin Peaks, the fleeting glimpses you get of her life and character make you wish she was a living character in the series . And I especially loved Jan Meyer, Sarah’s detective partner, he’s like the Eeyore of the Danish Police Department.
LOVE The Killing 🙂
Broadchurch is a fantastic series, full of twists and turns, keeping you on the edge of seat. Plus it stars my fave…. David Tennant
The Killing is fantastic and possibly my favourite too. But I also love The Fall. Then again, you could stick Gillian Anderson on the cover of a magazine and I’d happily stare at it for hours. I always love her, no matter what she does. And as for Jamie Dornan! As the old saying goes, I wouldn’t kick him out of bed for eating crisps. Hell no! I’ll allow him to bring biscuits too!
The first couple of seasons were great, the third one less so. But I still love it. The French must love it too, as I think they were going to remake it! Makes a change from the US butchering the Euro series.
Some great suggestions & my absolute favourite genre – I also loved The Fall, Broadchurch, The Missing & The Killing but going back a few years I really enjoyed Wire in the blood with the amazing talents of Robson Green & Hermione Norris. This psychological thriller kept me spellbound & guessing whilst glued to my seat for the entire 6 seasons. Loved the way Dr Tony Hill was able to profile serial killers by getting inside their heads to analyse & solve seemingly unsolvable crimes. Also enjoyed the interaction & developing relationship between Tony & DCI Carol Jordan & later DI Alex Fielding.
Broadchurch is one of my favourites. Love the actors and the different entwined stories and the twist and turns.
Iceland’s “Lava Field”,..if you’re into edge-of-you-seat thrills and spills, with heart-pounding mayhem this will certainly rock your boat!! Stellar cast and storyline to boot!!
LILYHAMMER. It’s hard to work out what’s scarier…the killers or Steve Van Zandt’s toupee!!!!
I love the style of Broadchurch and the way it leads the viewer down several different avenues before finally discovering the truth.
I loved the Swedish series Angelby. Real creepy but couldn’t stop watching it.
The Returned is about zombies who return it has the good and the bad coming back to to scare the living loved this series kept me guessing asking for answers
The Killing – gritty stories, where we get not only the perspective from the police, family , victim and friends but the impact on them also – delves into characterisation much deeper than most shows and more importantly, THOSE JUMPERS!!!! I want one!
My favourite foreigh crime is Wallender. Great suspense, good acting, interesting stories and terrific scenery. I miss it now it’s actually come to an end.
My favourite was the British show called “Guilt” because it was so suspenseful. The show got cancelled right on a cliffhanger, I was not happy!
The Bill is my pick,
The banter between the characters is fantastic.
Never seems to get old,
And the crimes are sometimes bold.
I have an affection for Wallander, he was my introduction to Swedish crime drama and being a big Kenneth Branagh fan I quickly became addicted to his rather depressive character and love the occasional humor thrown into the mix too.

There are some great tv noirs out there but The Frozen Dead is not one of them. The sporadic and ridiculous ‘riots’ in the psychiatric hospital were questionable as they added nothing (mind you we gave up at No 4 so perhaps there is some underlying dramatic reveal we missed). People seemed to drive hither and thither at the drop of a hat with no actual action. And cliches abounded. Give me the Killing, The Bridge, Trapped and Quicksand any day.
We’ll have to disagree on that one – I loved The Frozen Dead. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :).
