THAT SUGAR FILM | REVIEW

THAT SUGAR FILM IS THE MUST SEE FILM FOR THIS GENERATION, AND THE LAST, AND THE NEXT. IT SHOULD BE COMPULSORY FOR EVERY PARENT, GRANDPARENT AND CHILD TO SEE. It should be seen by every student in school from now to the end of time and it should be mandatory for all citizens of Earth to see it. We have seen members of cigarette companies sued for billions for the deaths they have caused from cigarette smoking and their misleading advertising and I would now like to see that noose thrown up and sugar industry people hung out to dry. I have lived a life of sugar, as have most of you, you might say “no I haven’t,” but did you know the average person eating a “healthy” food lifestyle as per low fat and what supermarkets tell us are “low fat” and good for us, consumes 40 teaspoons a day of sugar. Watching this movie will hurt the candy bar at cinemas, because after you see this you may wish for less choctops and M&Ms (2 billion of these made every day in the U.S.) and may wish for more apples or sugar free snacks. THAT SUGAR FILM has a different release than most movies. It is being released from Madman Films, it runs for 90mins, is rated PG and is going on tour. See down below for the dates it will be in your state. You can buy tickets from THAT SUGAR FILM and you can follow them on FACEBOOK, TWITTER, PINTEREST and INSTAGRAM.

BY JASON KING

I will bang on about this movie endlessly, it combines three of my favourite things, movie, food and Brenton Thwaites (my new candy :)). The world is currently going through an extremely slow revolution. For years we have been lied to by the sugar industry and the people who tell us what is healthy and what is not. There has been so much money in sugar production and sales that fat lost out, everything became low fat, fat was hideous but what we didn’t know is that the sugar industry was with the American Government on making this decision, it was made based on business, not health, as per most things we are told. Every time something is made low fat the fat is replaced with sugar, more sugar and more sugar, obesity has never gone down and has gotten worse. As you have heard me banging on since January 3rd I went paleo, removed all processed sugar out of my diet and only eat pretty much natural since then. I have now lost 11kgs by doing little exercise but altering my diet away from anything processed sugar. In THE SUGAR FILM Damon Gameau went the other way, he has been living the healthy, pretty much paleo, sugar free lifestyle for a few years (thanks to a very smart wife) and decides to test things the other way around. He decides to eat the average intake of sugar per day that the majority of the public eat. He cannot eat chocolate bars or soda and everything he eats must have a health claim, as in low fat. What you witness over the next 60 days will blow your mind, you can literally see the sugar destroying him, the weight pour on and the mental stability decline.

By now you are probably thinking “oh crap, here we go, another generic bloody health whining film,” well let me tell you dear sugar ingesting-on-the-way-to-death-passenger, I say “nay nay,” this film is told with the comic timing of world class comedians, the skilful marketing prowess of a bright colourful and superb animation, and is filled with cameos of heavy weight actors that not only lend their support and full backing but also their acting know-how and the fact that you will be happy to listen to Hugh Jackman, Steven Fry, David Gillespie, and for me, anything Brenton Thwaites does 🙂 (Damn you Damon, he had his shirt off!!) It is a smart and perfectly crafted documentary on the state of sugar that is dumbed-down for the entire world but never patronises anyone and will make scientists laugh, enjoy and learn something. Perhaps dumbed-down is not the right thing to say, it is not a dumb and simple movie it just makes it, on the whole, much more digestible. The closest thing I can think of to this movie is SUPERSIZE ME – but SUPERSIZE ME was at times ridiculous and at other times it was cluttered with facts and those guys went to ridiculous lengths to make a point, Damon Gaemau only eats what normal society eats.

It never beats the sugar thing over your head, hell the film never even tells you to NOT EAT SUGAR it simply shows you what this man does, “sugar’s not evil, but life is so much better when you get rid of it.” That sums up the movie.

Damon Gameau is an Australian actor, you would have seen him on PUBERTY BLUES, SLIDE, LOVE MY WAY, UNDERBELLY and many more. I bow to the man who brought this film to fruition, this film is about to go globally viral and his acting days are closing – he is about to join David Gillespie and Sarah Wilson as an ambassador for anti-sugar and better lifestyle. He should be knighted for what he is doing, he will assist and hopefully prolong the life of millions. You may think I am just an advocate supporting this man in his work, again, sugar indulging harbinger of diabetes I say “nay nay,” this week the updated U.S. Dietary Guidelines were released – the new recommendation is “Sugar should be limited to 12 teaspoons a day. This is the first time in world history the guidelines will have a recommended upper limit, in recognition of sugar’s impact on obestity and chronic disease.” Considering the average is 40 teaspoons a day – this is a phenomenal in its impact on America. If the Government chooses to adopt the committee’s recommendations (which they historically always do), we could be seeing the changes by the end of this year and considering Australia follows the U.S. on everything our own world could improve and supermarket aisles may more reflect that of SCOOP WHOLEFOODS or HARRIS FARM. That picture above, the teenager had all his teeth removed and had something like a 20 can Mountain Dew habit, the sad thing, even after this surgery he has still not stopped drinking Mountain dew.

Please for the love of a diabetes free life, take the time in your world to see this movie, it is 90mins of your life, if you hate it and think it is full of shit I will buy you a bag of M&Ms.

Damon – thank you for this movie and your support of humanity. And dear readers, if you get anything from this movie please read labels more clearly and aim for a more natural meal for every dish.
