PEPPA PIG MY BIRTHDAY PARTY | THE DVD REVIEW

This is not usually a film we would review, or a TV show for that matter, firstly I am gay and no longer smoke weed and have no children, in fact, not one child out of the ten kernels, mostly because half of the kernels are still young enough to be considered children. But PEPPA PIG is somewhat of a phenomenon among youngsters, you know, it is one of those shows that is short, I think each episode is under 6mins, so it holds their attention and then it is one of those shows that can be viewed over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. For this one I was unsure how to review it so I put it as a FB comp on our FB PAGE for parents to enter and we picked one to review it with their lovely child. So ex film critic (on child hiatus) Geoff Reid, and his beautiful film critic youngster, Eva, watched PEPPA PIG: MY BIRTHDAY PARTY over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again – enjoy their review. PEPPA PIG MY BIRTHDAY PARTY is out now on DVD, it has a total run time of 50mins and is rated G.

I also have to pass on apologies for all the people who have written to me asking if we will be running a giveaway for this – the truth is eOne Entertainment has literally ran out of promotional stock for it – it is that wanted – but you can get copies pretty much everywhere and stay tuned – I am trying for the PEPPA PIG CHRISTMAS DVD COMP for later in the year – you can all then throw kids at each other fighting for copies 🙂

REVIEW AUTHORED BY GEOFF REID

If you don’t know who Peppa Pig it is more than likely you don’t have kids between the ages of 1-8. Peppa Pig is huge in the kid world and when I say huge I mean HUGE! I have a 3 year old daughter who has to wear her Peppa Pig jumper every day resulting in regular washes of an evening. On top of that we have t-shirts, pyjamas and even underpants. Peppa Pig is that huge.

It’s hard not to like Peppa Pig. Its content is straight forward especially in a time when there are so many shows that just don’t make sense (looking your way Hoopla Doopla and In The Night Garden). Its quick humour is delivered in that British way we love but delivered not just for toddlers for parents as well. Its crudely drawn 2D animation is refreshing in a time when children’s programming is predominately 3D Pixar style animation and each show only goes for 5 minutes, resulting in episodes that are short, sweet and funny. It’s a show that is made in such a way that as a parent you are happy to sit down and watch multiple episodes.

PEPPA PIG MY BIRTHDAY PARTY | THE SALTY POPCORN REVIEW

Peppa Pig: My Birthday Party DVD is a great mix of 10 episodes I had and had not seen and a bonus episode of Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom, the new animated show by the creators of Peppa Pig and subsequently the episode most watched by my little lady on this DVD. The episodes range from “My Birthday Party” which features a hilarious magic performance by Daddy Pig, “Daddy Puts up a Picture” in which Daddy Pig tries to put up a picture with hilarious results and “Grandpa Pig’s Boat” which was my personal favourite, especially when Grandpa Pig falls asleep on his boat and leaves everybody stranded. If you haven’t guessed it we’ve watched this DVD a lot! But if you’re a parent like me you know how many kids shows there are and you also know how rare it is to find one you would be happy to sit and watch yourself.

Peppa Pig is a show that is so refreshing amongst a bevy of shows that you endure for the sake of your child, and sometimes your own sanity. Here’s a confession for all of you. Sometimes I find myself happily watching Peppa Pig even when my daughter has left the room.  This was a very fun DVD that I’m sure will get much more play time in our house.
