KUNG FURY | REVIEW & FULL MOVIE

is a Swedish martial arts comedy short film written, directed by, and starring . It was made after a phenomenal crowdfunding program that raised over $600000. Sandberg was aiming for $1MIL to make a feature but instead we get this amazing 30min short feature. A movie paying hilarious homage to 80s martial arts and cop action films that is averaging two million views a day on YouTube. You can actually add to the hits – the complete 30min film is at the bottom of Kernel Blake’s review. He perfectly described the film as “wondawful” 🙂 Enjoy Blake’s review and the movie…..all the best…..JK.

Having just finished my first viewing a mere few minutes ago, I can safely say, without over exaggeration, that KUNG FURY is one of my film highlights of 2015. Or quite possibly all time. Being a child of the 80’s and growing up, and dare I say it, moulding my own life around 80’s action films and kung fu flicks, a short, crowdfunded homage to all that made this era in cinema great, is definitely a film after my own heart.

Starting back in 2013 with one of the most insane film trailers in recent memory, the creators of KUNG FURY embarked on a Kickstarter campaign to acquire enough funding to expand the length of their 80’s action cliché fever dream. And now, the moment any self-respecting schlock fan has been waiting for has arrived, a 30 min film following the adventures of our leather clad, headband wearing, one liner quipping kung fu master cop….KUNG FURY.

Set in Miami circa 1985, we are introduced to our gravel voice hero through an explosive (literally) opening involving a sentient video arcade machine (yes, really) wreaking havoc on downtown Miami. Fury explodes (literally) into action and with the use of his Lamborghini (with brilliant 80s reference), fists, guns and cracking one liners takes out the threat and half of the city.

Through flashbacks, we see how Fury acquires his powers and delivers what is quite possibly the greatest “knock knock” joke in the history of time, becomes a lone-wolf badass cop and discovers a new threat to the world in the form of a short, moustachioed German… From here things really start to get nuts as we are introduced to Kung Fury’s new partner, who, not to spoil anything, may show up in a film with Chris Pratt in the not too distant future, crazy mullets, Nintendo power Gloves, Norse gods and .

Did I mention this is only a 30 min film? The story (?) moves along at a cracking pace, filled with so-dodgy-they’re-great special effects, brilliant one liners that would make Schwarzenegger green with envy and some pretty awesome action scenes with over the top Matrix-style moves.

Written, directed and acted by David Sandberg, with tongue so far into his cheek it’s poking out of his ears, this is the most fun 30mins I have had in a long time. Many people will watch this and wonder what is wrong with men and to you I say, “if you don’t enjoy this, you don’t enjoy life.” Yes, it’s pretty terrible, but that’s what makes it so wonderful, or wondawful, depending on your point of view.

Do yourself a favour and watch it, it’s free and only goes for half an hour. I am going back for another viewing and I can guarantee that it won’t be my last. If you love kung fu, action, comedy, gods, women riding T-Rex’s and David Hasselhoff you will love it, if you don’t like those things, go away.

I can’t wait to see what Sandberg does with a bit more cash behind him.

4 punches to the balls while doing the splits out of 5.
