HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 | MOVIE REVIEW

HORRIBLE BOSSES in 2011 was just hysterical, it related to most of us because, who hasn’t worked with a boss you thought was a tool that you could hypothetically consider killing? Just me? No? It introduced us to a great trio in , and and it gave us three amazing evil nemeses in Colin Farrell, and . I had not laughed for so long that much in a movie. The film was a huge success, it was made for $35MIL and returned $210MIL – great ROI. Number crunchers thought “shit, we can do this again, let’s put in no effort, bang this shit out and stupid people will throw money at us and we will be rich!” And here ladies and gentleman is – made for $42MIL – they will be hoping for $252MIL ROI but the movie is nowhere as good as the first one and pissed me off. It is out on THUR 11th December pretty much everywhere, it is being released from Roadshow Films, is rated MA15+ and runs for 108mins.

Dale, Kurt and Nick start their own business, come up with a fantastic (but really stupid) idea with a shower invention and are set to make millions. They enter into partnership with Bert and Rex Hanson and are counting their future earnings before they are shafted by the multi-millionaires and are left with a lot of debt. This entire ridiculous set-up is just to lead you into the same place they were after being mistreated by their respective bosses in the first movie. Once there, they toss up a couple of ideas and low and behold settle on a very similar plot to the first one, this time, nay nay to murder, kidnap is on the cards. Kidnapping of Rex () the dimwitted uber rich son of Bert (). One thing leads to another, they try and bring the old bosses (the alive ones that is) back into the movie as they do Dean “Mother-Fucker” Jones. Same shit, different screenplay, less than awesome results.

What does work in the movie is the fun the guys have together, they occasionally have some hysterical scenes, and their chemistry together is great, the problem with this movie was that they did the same things they did in the first movie, entered the same type of squabbles, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Honestly the best line in the movie was in the out-takes, Jason Bateman and Jason Sudeikis are hiding in the garden of the mansion and Bateman says “I smell shit,” without missing a beat Sudeikis comes back with “maybe it’s your acting.” I laughed so hard at that :).

HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 | SALTY POPCORN MOVIE REVIEW | KURT (JASON SUDEIKIS), DALE (CHARLIE DAY) AND NICK (JASON BATEMAN) LEANING OVER THE OPEN BOOT

I like Bateman but he plays the same character in everything every single time. He is the guy you want to take home to meet your parents, Sudeikis is the guy with the perfect hair and killer one liners and Charlie Day is the guy you want to get shitfaced with. Chris Pine on the other hand, mmmmmmmmmm. :). Love the guy, met him once and spoke to him, better in real life :). His character is quite funny in this, but predictable and he can’t come close to Spacey and Aniston from the original. Christoph Waltz I found boring, he could have been used much better. Jamie Fox was the same, I quite like his character and his randomness, he made me chuckle. And I found them quite desperate in getting Dave Harken (Kevin Spacey) back in this movie, seriously ludicrous idea to ask him for advice, made me think Nick was more stupid than he looks, but Spacey had some fun, probably filmed it all in an hour.

But there is one character that shines better in this one than the first. Jennifer Aniston owns in this movie, I could have an entire movie of Dr Julia Harris, she goes way too far in this movie and every time she opened her mouth I was crying with laughter. It is more humorous because you just know how straight laced Aniston appears in real life. She was brilliant, but don’t let your mum see it because her level of depravity is just out there.

HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 | SALTY POPCORN MOVIE REVIEW | DR. JULIA HARRIS, D.D.S (JENNIFER ANISTON)

I don’t know what I expected from director and writer , but after reading his resume, SEX DRIVE, HOT TUB TIME MACHINE, THAT’S MY BOY and WE’RE THE MILLERS (my one exception, loved this), I kind of think we got what we should have from him with HORRIBLE BOSSES 2.

I don’t think it deserves a cinema release, except for Aniston, but I know it will make lots of money from stoner teenagers – maybe that was my problem, totally needed bucket bongs in the car park before the movie. For the love of god do not let their be a third people!!
