THE BIGGEST WIBBLY-WOBBLY TIMEY-WIMEY DOCTOR WHO GIVEAWAY

You may have picked it up over the last few years – I am a HUGE Doctor Who fan, I have watched it since I was about two but never really got back into the new series until my trainee at the time (and now great friend), Sam, kept telling me I had to watch it, he insisted, then loaned me a few seasons on DVD, it was all over then, back into it with a vengeance. My mum worships it, secretly think it was an Eccleston fantasy thing going on there that transferred to the following doctors. Anyway before I gush some more, we have one of the best giveaways we have ever had. The amazing jubbly wubbly people at Roadshow Entertainment and ABC DVD have given us: 2X FULL SEASONS OF SEASON 8 ON BLU RAY, 1X FULL SEASON OF SEASON 8 ON DVD, 4X COPIES OF DEEP BREATH ON BLU RAY and 4X COPIES OF DOCTOR WHO: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE ON DVD. This one will be a game of skill, find out how to win below. May the tardis be with you…..JK.

Season 8 sees a HUGE change to the universe, gone is all the previous Doctors we love, all who had something similar, they were all younger, all fairly attractive and all very dorky and loveable. The new series sees Pater Capaldi as the new Doctor, a much older man, a darker Doctor, a less considerate Doctor and some may say, a Doctor who is much less happy and loveable. It has not helped his Scottish accent has had BBC receiving complaints they cannot understand him and seriously requesting subtitles.

I found season eight the transitional series, I will be honest, it is my least favourite series since Eccleston commenced. For me Clara stepped up and owned the season and I actually preferred Clara to the doctor in this series. The saddest thing of it all, my mum, for the first time ever, has stopped watching Doctor Who, this is not good news for Capaldi but I think he will come into his own in series nine, now that it has been confirmed he will be returning. I think Steven Moffat’s writing/ producing was at fault in this one, they never got the story arc happening and the season felt disjointed, it had some great stand alone episodes but when season seven ended with us discovering Gallifrey was out there all we wanted was THE HUNT FOR GALLIFREY, we got nothing! Was Moffat so worried about introducing such a different Doctor that he felt he had to spend a season getting us used to him? This was not awesome! The season had no major flow for me, except I loved everything Clara did, she stood up and the episodes she basically stood in for/became/ embraced the confidence of the Doctor were the best of the season.

It does not help the series that it has been announced Jenna Coleman (Clara) will be leaving the show, they really need to get Capaldi on track and when they get him a companion they need to make him/ her a freaking awesome companion. Someone with chemistry with Capaldi, Clara has gone more “daughterish” and the Doctor more father figure. That just won’t work, I say we bring on someone like Helen Mirren as the companion – now timey-wimey that into your brain – that would be insane!!

Whining aside I still watched the show religiously every week, went to the cinemas when it was releasing into cinemas and have already bought my tickets for the symphony extravaganza in February.

I have faith in Capaldi, he is a superb actor, but if it’s going to get dark we need to see him get dark, will Clara die and the Doc go on a rampage, will the Doc finally kill?

I cannot wait for the Christmas episode and for series nine next year – the world needs the Doctor.
