ABDUCTED: THE DVD REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

I was sent a copy of this film, ABDUCTED, on DVD and asked to review it. First of all, do not start crying and running away from the monitor, it is not the hideous one from last year that starred the uber gorgeous but hideous wolf boy actor, Taylor Lautner. Nope this is an Entertainment One Hopscotch sci fi/ horror film that has gone straight to DVD. My initial thoughts were “oh shit no, this looks horrible, would rather watch reruns of Twilight,” but then I agreed and committed to watch the film for review. The first ten minutes were proving me right, but then it got into a groove, and I have to say this is a nice little surprise B Grade film that I actually quite enjoyed.

ABDUCTED 2013 MOVIE POSTER

Firstly, the kind people of Entertainment One Hopscotch have given us 5X copies of the film on DVD to giveaway to you lucky souls – just follow the details at the bottom of the article.

Abducted in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, Dave (Trevor Morgan: The Sixth Sense, The Patriot, Jurassic Park 3) and Jessica (Tessa Ferrer: Grey’s Anatomy) wake up half-naked in a dark cell. Their only initial contact is with mysterious figures in orange biohazard suits, who use metal pincers to control them. Along with three other couples, Dave and Jessica are subjected to bizarre medical experiments and horrific torture. One by one they are knocked unconscious, awaking with disturbing scars and metal stitches. After weeks of torment and fearing the worse, the captives make one final attempt to break free… only to discover that the world they once knew will never be the same again.

Dave (Trevor Morgan) trying to escape in ABDUCTED 2013

I really liked Trevor Morgan as a child actor, he was on the up and up and everyone wanted the cute little kid, with things like The Sixth Sense, The Patriot and Jurassic Park 3 and TV spots on ER, Touched by an Angel and Baywatch it was a brilliant world for him at the time. Then he hit puberty and like most kid actors they kind of fade into obscurity as studios no longer find them cute. Well, Morgan has kept busy in more obscure films including the very cool Mean Creek in 2004. It was nice to see him in film again and he did not disappoint, he kept me entertained and his acting along with Tessa Ferrer’s actually elevated this film from being crap. They were very believable as the couple in torment who will do anything to get back to each other and escape.

The film is very CUBE meets SAW/HOSTEL meets INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS and it gets more enjoyable and curious as the film progresses and turns into this twisted escape film. All the acting is great, the cinematography is passable and it looks like the budget was minimal, this was the success for me, the film is much better than expected for what it is on the budget they had, and like the characters, we are kept as much in the dark about the captors.

Another of the couples records their knowledge of events in ABDUCTED 2013

All the captives have no idea why they are being held and all of them have their own ideas that sound as plausible and as ridiculous as each others, but all of the ideas are possible, the funny thing is the real reason was no where near what I was expecting from the start. They are all so mentally messed up as well as mostly physically messed up as their organs slowly get taken from them. Charming really. But their interactions as their paranoia and mental state deteriorates is great and the little girl, screw that, she scares me!

ABDUCTED 2013 is out now on DVD and DIGITAL HD now and if you are lucky you can win your very own copy. You could do much worse. If you like some B Grade Friday night couch horror then this is for you. ABDUCTED is rated MA15+ and runs for 95mins.
